Shubhra Gupta

Shubhra Gupta, an alumnus of the prestigious SRCC, started her career as a freelance designer in Delhi. While freelancing for her clients, Shubhra figured that it was really hard to find desirable and affordable home & living products. This inspired Shubhra to put together all her energy, experience and creativity to embark on a special journey called Cultural Concepts.

Here are the excerpts of our conversation with the lady herself…

  1. Can you tell us something about yourself?

I am not a very expressive person outside of my design work…so I let my work speak for me.

  1. What inspired you to work in the area of home ware?

While freelancing, I was always looking for classy yet affordable décor products, but could not find much. That made me realize there is a need to fill this gap, and so I started my new journey with ‘Cultural Concepts’.

  1. Can you tell us about your Design journey so far?

Simply Awesome!!! I dabbled into a field that I did not know. Yet I am the name recalled when people link designs, gifts and interiors with affordability…That’s where my satisfaction lies. At the same time, there is so much more I wish to cover.

  1. What/Who would you say is your biggest inspiration?

It has to be only one word – ‘India’. Unlimited canvases, unlimited styles, unlimited colors, what else to say…there is so much to explore….it really never ceases to inspire.

  1. Who is your Number One fan?

My family, my friends and my clients… they are all so appreciative and affectionate.

  1. What are the aspects of your work that you enjoy the most?

Well, there are many….travelling, exploring, learning something new every day…..all this keeps me energetic and my creative juices flowing.

  1. What do you consider the biggest challenge you face today related to your work or design in general?

The traditional artisan community is alarmingly decreasing. The younger generation is moving away from the craft field. And among those left, there are not many who would do genuine creative work. Stereotypes are still there but there are very few experts who can give shape to new ideas.

  1. What is your material of choice and why?

Every possible material that can shaped into aesthetically pleasant object! It’s difficult to limit myself by choosing any one.

  1. How often do you add new designs to your catalog?

You can say…on an average, every six months.

10. What is your vision for your work and design? Any exciting plans for the road ahead that you can share with us?

I want to bring designs to every household rather to every nook and corner of a house.

12. Your thoughts on Zaarga.

I love your entire concept and applaud the entire team for carrying it in such a beautiful way. There is a great connect which is hard to find anywhere else. Would love to be on this platform always and grow along.
